How to Get Started
Recognizing the need for a specifically designed Hockey Development Program, the Flames Hockey Club has coordinated with the Center Ice Skating School to achieve the best possible experience and development for your athlete.  Our Flames programs are offered in conjunction with the Center Ice Skating School programs to allow any player at any level to join the tradition of playing hockey at the appropriate level.  We offer programs from the most beginner levels all the way through the most competitive level offered in Illinois.

To get started, review the programs offered determining where your athlete is best suited and sign up for that program.  It is not always black & white so this web site is designed to help, not only find the appropriate level, but provide information on the different levels as well as the overall Flames Development & Mite Programs.

UNDERSTANDING THE PROGRAMS OFFERED

The Flames Hockey Development & Mite Programs offer four distinctive levels: Skills & Drills, Scooters/Pre-Hockey, Mite House & Mite Travel.  In addition to these levels, skating classes from Tot 1 through Hockey Beta 2 are offered by the Center Ice Skating School in cooperation with the Flames Hockey Club.

The Skills & Drills Program is the beginning point for skaters with previous skating instruction for introductory hockey skills.  This program is the introduction of stickhandling, passing & shooting development, along with the continuing reinforcement of skating development.

The Scooters/Pre-Hockey Program is the beginning of teaching teams and the development of Hockey Sense.  This program utilizes cross-ice & small area games to develop the athlete on hockey decision making and game situations.

The Mite House Program is an internal league where the players are evaluated and teams are balanced amongst the teams in the league.  The concept of all house teams is to remain recreational in nature, allowing the players ice time roughly 2-3 times a week.

The Mite Travel Program is the most competitive form of youth hockey.  It is designed for the player who wants increased exposure to the game of hockey and is willing to commit an increased amount of time to his/her development.  Travel players are chosen at try-outs by the club appointed coaches.  Travel players are on the ice 4-5 times a week and travel to away games in area ice arenas in Northern Illinois.
